hi, this is not exactly "garage" specific but was hoping someone could help.
i just had a aluminum patio cover installed and wanted to add 3 flood lights to the front end of it to light up my back yard. any opinions on good flood lights and wattage? i have about a 60'x90' area to light up and the patio cover is 40'. i was looking to find something that outputs close to 180* as possible. my thinking was that the lighting would be more even and you wouldnt see where one ends and the other takes over.
i will also be installing 8 "pancake" lights under the cover to light my deck unless anyone has other ideas? i found some strip lights that where in a metal fixture with magnets attached to they can be stuck to a steel surface but my patio cover is all aluminum. those lights were also pretty expensive.

the last and maybe most important thing. would there be a way to remote control them? i would like to be able to control them from inside the house (for security reasons) but running a switch circuit will be pretty difficult. all of this will be LED so i'm hoping there is some tech out there that i dont know about that could make this possible. if i need to mount an enclosure for control hardware that wont be an issue. same with power supply.

thank you

so i think i've decided to go with those wafer lights but still need a way to control them. any ideas?
i can get those new ones that have WIFI and allow you to control with your phone but i wont be the only one using this so something physical would be nice.

"Flood" vs "spot" lighting has to do withe the reflector. The reflector maybe built-in to the bulb (common on incandescent lights) or it maybe part of the fixture.

maybe you should consider a wireless switch instead of a wifi switch for the light ?

Not sure you particular situation, isn't every light required a switch some how and not directly connect to a Circuit breaker ?

Just search for wireless remote switch in EBay or Amazon ?

thank you for the reply. i've seen plenty of wireless switches but it seems like they are more for small lamps and LED strips. i cant seem to find one that has a receiver that can handle the amperage of multiple lights.
if i can find a wireless switch, it would have a receiver then power would come out from that to each light.

Not sure your exact situation, if you have switch that controls those lights, they have wifi wall switches that can handle up to 15AMP of non-inductive loads. If you don't they have inline wireless remote switches from Z-wave/wireless/WIFI to almost everything., you just have to search for the right one.

Not sure why you don't have a wall switch for controlling those flood lights... and what is your flood light Wattage / voltage ?

i dont have any lights installed at the moment. this patio cover was just added on a few months ago so i am looking to add lights underneath and flood lights to light the yard.
i have power at the patio cover that i can use for lighting but needed to figure out the control first.
one of the reasons i was looking for a remote or remotely mounted switch if for security. this way the lights can be turned on from inside the house. otherwise wiring a traditional switch would be very easy.

Most new lights are going to be LED, so they don't take that much amperage to run. The Caseta switches (15 amp rating?) work well for remote switching and they install just like any other switch. You can just use the remote on the table top, or install it in a plate that makes it look like a wall switch. I use one to switch on my exterior garage lights from the house before I walk out.
