Floor Coating for Welding/Cutting?

My house/garage will be finished in about a month and I am thinking about doing something with the garage floor before I move everything in there.

My garage is 1300 sq.ft. attached.

I thought about going with epoxy but I do a lot of welding, grinding, and cutting (plasma, grinder, chop saw) in my garage and the cheap Rustoleum epoxy coating on my last garage floor looked like hell from all of the burn marks.

Does anyone know of a coating I can use that is resilient to burning?

I just sealed mine for the reasons you listed. Mine is a working garage, not a showpiece. Sealing/finishing BEFORE moving stuff is a must!

Porcelain tile might be worth considering or just a sealer as mentioned above.

Weld slag, etc will damage a coated floor. If you are not going to protect the floor, or perhaps configure a specific area, a sealer such as Ghostshield 8510 is a much better solution -- but provides no aesthetic benefits. https://www.garageflooringllc.com/siloxa-tek-8505-concrete-sealer/

I would also recommend a good penetrating sealer, anything topical will be damaged. Stay away from epoxy or high solids sealers. I use the linked spec chem product and have had great luck for it, also it is very economically priced and friendly for interior and exterior use. I did my three car driveway and my garage slab before I moved into my new house, one of the best things I did before. I used 5 gallons and was a little short, can see the exact area I missed every-time it rains.

I was torn about this in my 1050 sq ft shop. I have it broken into thirds for woodworking, lift/repair/restoration , and metal fab. I wanted most of the shop floor protected so the new Crete stayed nice. When I priced out the quality penetrating sealers it wasn’t much of a jump to get to epoxy. Ended up with primer,epoxy, top coat and will have burns in some areas. Did a dark color to minimize the damage visually.

Use a sealer or the popular Ghostshield system of densifer/sealer. Since it penetrates, it can handle welding.

How do you expect to burn your floor? Oxyfuel cutting? Mig BBs? Casting or forging mishaps?

Slag from a torch is the worst. Keep flattened rod boxes and pieces of roof tin around. Place on floor under torch dropping. Build a table like a waterjet or plasma uses. Have the slag funnel into a wheeled scrap buggy.

Mig BBS can be stopped cold by contractors floor protection cardboard. Elevate to give time for BB to cool. Work on a table.

Build a dirt floor weld shop with rock dust. Set up I beam sawhorses at the exact same height connected by underground rebar. Never move your ground clamp. Hang your feeder from a jib to easily cover a huge area.

Running a foundry? Put down pavers, etc. With edging to contain. Add lots of sand. Floor is protected.
