Got a big question...

I'm about ready to call Fred at Alpha Garage for my floor in my new shop... only one problem.... what color to put down?

We've talked about white with chips... has anyone put white base down and taken pics? We are having trouble deciding what chips to put in and hoped you all could help with some examples.

I realize we all have different likes, etc... but we're stumped so please post some pics!

My new garage thread is

Thanks for the help.... and Fred if you have any suggestions or ideas I'm all ears.

How about using different shades of white flakes. Off white, bright white, beige. Just several different very light colors. Maybe just some silver metallic.

Do you have any colors you can match on cabinets or paint colors?

I think whatever color you do, if one color is dominate, its going to all look that color.

Maybe do like a white granite look.

That is actually a light gray base with the same chip blend colors as the light grey Quickrete at Lowes. (black and 2 shades of gray I believe). The chips are a very light broadcast. I basically take a Copenhagen pinch worth of chips and hurl them at the ceiling to get them to fall evenly. Something like this floor you could get away with buying the chips from Lowes if you had the resin and no chips. Otherwise getting them from wherever your buying the resin from is your best bet.

That's a pretty sweet project you got going there!

Actually we get asked this question quite often. I always start my answer with "I'm colorblind and have terrible taste..." and answer with "light gray LiquaTile with our "Moody Granite" DecoFlakes is far and away the most common choice."

But the best choice for you is really whatever turns you on. I will say that white and black are a bit unique because they will tend to show dirt and dust more than other choice, although even a light broadcast of flakes will help mask that.

The flakes are really a nice way to get a customized look, white, black, and a 3rd color to match your favorite car, house trim, lift, tool box etc. works well. Or get 2 colors that match your favorite team, school colors etc.

If a gray floor sounds boring, our most popular other color is "Island Tan" - there have been some real nice projects using that.

Didn't know Frank Lloyd Wright had designs in your area, we have a few in our 'hood, and I actually took an art class in one of them - Hollyhock House. I was hoping some of his inspiration would rub off - but sadly that wasn't to be.

I have a white floor. The area under my 4 post lift (installed after the pics were taken) has no chips so that dropped parts are easier to find. The area outside the "lift box" has red, black and gray chips. If I had to do it over again, I would probably have fewer chips. This was my first try at adding chips and I got a little carried away. I also didn't apply them evenly enough. Hope this helps you decide.
