Does anyone have any first hand knowledge of the duribility of the different floor coatings? I have been looking into H&C floor stain, supercoat epoxy, rustoleum professional epoxy. At first I was sold on VCT but I am starting to change my mind. I am not interested in any of the snap together tile floors. I live in Iowa so we see both temperature extremes and road salt. I do all of my own fab and auto repair work so the floor will get some hard use. I will be doing the floor coating myself, my garage is 1200 sf and is 1 year old. I have searched here and a few other sites but I have had very limited success finding any long term data. Right now I am leaning towards the H&C since it is very easy to touch up if it gets damaged, but at the same time I don't want to be doing touch up every 6 months.

Just wanted to say hey... I live in Des Moines Iowa.

Can't give you much help on this subject but I have the same feeling on snap together floors... seems it many collect EVERYTHING under the tiles, not the best option with our climate and road salts. A coating seems the only way to go, I know my parents applied an epoxy coating several years ago in their home in Minnesota and has had very good luck with it. My father can't remember what it was exaxtly... but it was some nasty stuff/industrial coating he purchased from his neighbor who is a contractor. He etched the garage floor and then applied the coating, he says prep before application of the coating is the key.
