Floor drain, square or round

Hey guys, putting a couple of floor drains in my garage floor, the water will be piped outside to a basin. The local Lowe's has 2 styles, a round 9" inch and a square one about the same size, the square one has a bell trap in it which I realize I don't need being the drains aren't connect to the sewer system. I was just wondering If there was an advantage to either the round or the square drain as far as ease of finishing, looks, performance, etc. Thanks in advance.

I had the same dilemma, round or square. I went with round. In my case, if I went with square, the I'm so **** that I would want to have my control joints running into each corner of the drain. However, my control joints won't work out to meet up with the drain. Also, since concrete is more likely to crack from a 90 degree corner rather than a radius, I went with round.

Ever consider a trench drain located about 12" from the overhead doors? If I think about it, I will get pics of my floor drain and post them up.

I think it depends on what you will be flushing down the drain. Is your water hard or soft?

not much, but square screens do tend to collect calcification in corners. I don't think that would be much of a concern in a garage though.

Great pix, phbsales. If starting a garage floor slab from scratch, the trench train would be the best solution. The whole floor can be sloped uniformly toward the door. Putting floor drains in the middle of the floor and sloping to them will create uneven floors when trying to level out a project.

As for the round vs square, it doesn't matter for a drainage point of view. Sometimes humor does not come across well in these posts. Sorry for the confusion.
