I will be pouring my concrete slab in about a week. I think I would like to finish it like what I See in Trader Joe's or whole foods stores. They have a stain with a clear finish.
I would like to know how I should request my slab to be finished?
Also how to make my floors look like in the stores I mentioned? And what determines the color of the stain? Trader Joes is a red amber and whole foods is a much lighter color
Thanks

I was wondering about this too as I was wandering through Costco. Seems like a regular concrete floor with a beautiful polish. Wonder how they do it...

They polish the **** out of it. My local Kroger's is being renovated and they're going from VCT to a polished concrete. Looks like they get about one aisle (minus along the edges) polished each night.

You should be able to have the stain/color mixed just in with the concrete. I believe it's expensive but having the concrete colored verses a coating seems like the most durable.

What did you end up doing? My floor was already done when I started seeing the stained concrete industrial floors. I stained it with iron sulfate and coffee and then clear sealer over it. I like the aged, non uniform look and it was super cheap.

Existing slabs can be stained using either acid stain or acetone dye.
They will all require a sealer, in a garage that means an epoxy sealer for durability.

Polished concrete is an entirely different process and is not recommended for a garage.
You will get fed up with it and end up sealing it anyway.

Below is a Canadian customer's floor, he only has the stain down at this point.
He is doing a tremendous job.

We carry the stains and sealers too.

www.sealsource.com - They are the floor finisher/product supplier for many of the Trader Joe's locations across the US. How do I know? I used to work for them. It can be done it a residential application as well, but it does require some special equipment and know how. If you give them a call they can answer many of your questions.
