Floor grinding & Grit

Hello all...

Plan to rent a 11in. floor grinder from Sunbelt and do the floors in two separate garages I have this weekend. One is a 20x18 add-on that's a couple years old and the existing which has an awful peeling floor paint of some kind (there when we purchased). I plan to do some kind of epoxy in both, doing the 20x18 first. Is there any reason to worry about doing the grinding now, if the epoxy isn't going to be put down for say another month?

I think I want to do a very heavy fleck distribution on the floor followed by a topcoat of whatever system I use. Will the heavy fleck coverage provide some traction benefit or do I still need to apply the grit additives in the topcoat?

You can wait as long as you want after grinding as long as you keep the floor clean. A full coverage of color flakes will add texture to the surface and be less slippery than no flakes, but it does not create the type of grip like a non-slip media does.

We would strongly recommend that you use a non skid additive to a clear topcoat, even over flecks as they can be very slippery, especially a full broadcast.

Our Armorgrip non skid is a small particle size that is easy to clean (won't pull mop hairs or skin a knee if a child falls on it) that is often used in these applications.

Not sure of the size of the second space but you may want to consider renting the twin head grinder if available. Yes, to traction additive.
