So I went to Home Depot this past weekend with the intent of renting a polishers with diamabrush but not one store near me had the dust skirt nor did they even know what it was!
So I called the local rental shops and they all seem to have the Edco dual head units are these decent to use on uncoated bare concrete? I have about 700sqft to do.

I made a dust skirt for the Home Depot grinder out of a 4" wide strip of upholstery vinyl. Wrapped it around the base with the bottom edge just hitting the floor. Made a lot of 1/4" slits spaced about 1/4" apart all the way round. This worked to get my garage ground for epoxy.

It just ***** HD don't have the right parts to go with the machines even though they show a photo of the polisher with the shroud above the units!

I did 800+sqft with the polisher/Diamabrush a couple years ago and 1200sqft with the gas, dual head unit about a month ago. Dual head is worth the money in time and effort savings.

My Home Depot didn't have the skirt either.

When I rented from HD they said in big books letters WET GRINDING ONLY. So I used my hose and wet dry vac to stick up the mud.

It worked just fine

6toGo - Are you looking to actually polish the concrete or just grind it for a coating? There are way better options than a dimabrush and vacuums to go with them so you've got zero dust. Most Sunbelt Rental stores (and many small shops as well) carry a grinder from Husqvarna called the PG 450 and sell a polishing kit called Hiper3. You can do a polished floor with that kit and they turn out awesome. The same machine can be used with non-polishing tools called redi-lock segments to do basic grinding and floor prep.

Jocool, thanks for that link. I think that's what I need to grind my garage and patio. Anyone used that product and how does it hold up?

No I'm grinding it for epoxy coating. The Husqvarna looking similar to the Edco single head unit. I'm not opposed to getting the Edco dual head if it will make life easier than the polisher with diamabrush.

I had the same situation last week. Went to HD and rented the diamabrush and polisher. I knew from watching the diamabrush instructional use video that it could be used wet or dry. I planned on starting my epoxy coating the next day, so I decided to go dry because I didn't want to deal with the slurry of wetness, waiting for the concrete to dry, or getting slurry all over my new sod. Went to HD and the diamabrush had black marker all over saying MUST USE WITH WATER. I asked and they said it had to be used this way to preserve the blades. Knowing it was a crock and they were looking to extend their rental life, I just said ok. They said there wasn't a dust shield and I skipped on the drywall vac rental since I have a shop vac. I was surprised at how little dust kickup there was when I was grinding. Probably ended up with about 3 gallons of dust that I just vacuumed up into a bag with my shop vac once done. 600 sqft area that I spent about 2.5 hours grinding. I did use a full face respirator. Grinding the stemwall with a diamond grinder attachment on my angle grinder produced way more dust. I found the diamabrush to be very gentle. It took up mortar and mud splashes no problem and wasn't aggressive at all.

When I say how little of dust kickup, I mean compared to the blurry cloud generated by the angle grinder and diamond grind. There's definitely dust that you need to account t for with a mask, but not enough where it's hazy. My clothes were barely coated after grinding the entire floor.

I've done a ton of grinding with it, like thousands of square feet. Great machine and tooling. There are several different ways to polish the floor with it, ie: different tooling options.

Edco is a great machine for residential use and far better than a Diamabrush for prepping as much more downward weight and much better dust collection.

It's time Vs $$$ but I would rather get the job done faster than save a few bucks. Looks like I will be going for the Edco Sat morning!

United rental is like that here but another local rental shop will give it to me for $240 for
5 hrs. Hopefully it will only take 2-3hrs!

Hey everyone -
Was trying to find an existing thread to ask in rather than start my own.
My 2car garage currently has the HD Rust-Oleum epoxy box kit on it that is garbage, and I want to get it up. Wife and I have hand-scraped about 10% thus far, but we're exhausted. I tried researching HD rentals and went to the store on Saturday. He showed me the two discs that need to be rented along with the machine. But then I was thinking, (I'm a DeWalt guy), if I'm gonna spend $150 anyway to rent something, why not buy the 60V FlexVolt 6" angle grinder, the 7" dust shroud, and a diamond cut plate and do it by hand? Then I spend the same amount and end up with a tool at the end. I have the DeWalt 12gal wet/dry vac that I think will just hook up to the shroud?
I've been reading though that silica dust clogs a wet/dry pretty quick.
Thoughts on going that route versus machine rental? It's a standard 2car garage, so not very much to get done....

You responding to me?
It's not about faster vs. saving money. It's about spending the money and actually owning future-use tools at the end of that spending. Double win.

I took that approach and bought the Dewalt Hepa vac. It worked perfect grinding 1650 sq/ft with a 7 inch angle grinder.

Have you seen the video? The Vac has a pulse filter system...

I emptied the vacuum after about 5-600 sqft being ground and it worked great. I never saw any dust but still wore a high quality respirator.

Great suggestion. I did some research, definitely bought one. Now the trick is getting all the connections to work because the ports on the DD are 2.1" external and the hose from the DeWalt shop vac is 2.5" internal....looks like I'll need some specialized PVC attachments as well as additional hose....

Use a Dust Deputy with the shop vac and you will be good to go. Without it, you will just clog up the filter within minutes and blow out bags. Here is the link.

Late to the party here, but I am spreading the word. I have owned a Husqvarna PG450 for 3 years and it’s worthless!!! The rental places have the 110v model and I have the 220v model.
