Both the rental companies around here rent the floor grinders but the ones they rent don't have vacuum hook ups for the dust. Has anyone on here ground thier floor w/o the vacuum atatchment how bad was the dust?

Bad. It will get on everything left in your garage. Though what you can do is wet grind it and that should help out with the dust and clean up after.

How about pickin' up an inexpensive 'wet/dry vac'.
They are as little as $70 or so aren't they?
Money well spent, even if it's $100.
I wouldn't do it dry without a vacuum.
I wouldn't do it wet without an assistant to run the squeegee or broom.

Put a light sprayer on your garden hose. Wet the floor down a little, not full blown pools, but wet. Grind and breathe easy.

I wet ground my floor, and it was easy. The only downside is that you then have to rinse the floor out. You can't blow it out with a blower or sweep it up. If you can't have any water in your shop, this would not be the best way.

I tried grinding with a hand grinder with no vacuum and in under 5 minutes I was having trouble seeing the grinder I was holding. it's the most dust I've ever seen.

Try to find a place that is willing to deliver - even if it is out of town. I got one with a water connection but wish it had the vacuum connector, as I am still cleaning up all the concrete dust and will be for awhile.
That and wear a good(not cheap) dust mask like an N95 - even the one I had with the water applicator was get hard on the lungs.

BAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I had the Garage door opened and still had a hard time seeing the floor. The dust will get everywhere. When I was done i had to get my neighbors cars washed. Get a vacuum! Good Luck.
