Floor jack handle as for leverage with breaker bar?

Hello all,

I don't have any scrap piping but I did recently buy an Arcan XL35 3 1/2-Ton floor jack, which has 2 pieces of steel piping as handle. How would you feel about using either of these handle pieces as cheater bar with 1/2" breaker bar to remove axle nut? Especially, if you had to stand on the sucker to brake it loose??

I have the above break over bar.. I've still had to use a piece of pipe when removing stub axle nuts on my 74 Datsun... I personally would assume the pipe would be strong enough but only you can decide that.

You mean like this? That's a 3/4 drive. I also weigh 200 and bounced on it.

@turnthewrench2.0, @Jeffer949, Thanks!
I have both of these breaker bars from HF but no cheater unless I use the XL35 handle pieces...

I have no problems used a jack handle as a breaker bar extension, but I wouldn't use the two pieces together for fear of it failing at the joint.

I've probably done it with the handle off at least 5 or 6 different jacks. Living in the rust belt bolts can get ridiculously hard to remove. I would be a lot more worried about the socket than the jack handle. I don't get worried until you see someone wedge it against the ground and put the car in gear.

Well I'll come clean. I once even put a jack under the pipe to get enough force to break something loose

This is the exact reason my jack handle doesn't have the metal nub that locks the 2 pieces of the handle together I have to take it out to fit it over my breaker bar. No issues on mine whatsoever.

No biggie, I used a jack handle once with a ratchet and wedged it against the frame rail of my truck, then bumped the starter to break the crank bolt loose. I'm still alive! :badteeth:

That's common with a Honda or old Buick 455.

Nope, an older craftsman 2 ton. If that XL35 handle can't handle that...

Thanks!
Luckily, my HF 1/2 in. Drive 25 in. Professional Breaker Bar worked without the need for a cheater but just a little help from my body weight.

Thanks to all!
New DS Raxle CV axle in!

Many years ago I scrapped a failed HF floor jack. I saved the handle for just the reason of using it as a cheater . it works great for that.

A year ago I messed up when I moved and sat an old Central Hydraulics jack out by the curb...I should've kept that handle. DOH! Why didn't you tell me to keep the handle before I did that?

If your worried about damaging your jack handle, just got to the local box store and get a piece of black pipe. :headscrat

Thanks!
What material and size piece of black pipe, would you get at local box store?
I've got a 4 foot chunk of 3/4" black pipe that I use...although generally only for bending rebar, I pretty much have never needed a cheater between the IR 2135TiMax and a 36" 3/4" drive breaker bar, nothing has had me stuck yet.
