Has anybody ever extended their floor jack? As in making it longer, not adding a block of wood for more height. I picked up the Arcan Jack from Costco today. It seems really nice and I was excited about the low profile design, but with the overhang on my cars I still have to drive the car up on blocks before putting the jack underneath. I was looking at the AC Hydraulics jacks which are way out of my price range, but if you compare the parts list between their standard length and extra long length unit they use the same cylinder. Obviously the load capacity decreases the more length you add.
I found another jack made by omega that has a really long frame but looks a bit cheap.
I'm thinking it would be possible extend the Arcan Jack (or many others) and maintain the stock mechanical components while maybe even widening the track width of it a bit to add stability. Has anybody tried this? Obviously good welding and fabrication skills are required, along with some understanding of statics so you can properly calculate your new load capacity.
I also found this post that seems helpful for comparing long frame jacks.
