I have an older floor jack that has not been used in a few years. its an american forge and foundry 3 ton. It does not work at all but has not leaked oil. I found a parts list on there website so it seems plausible to rebuild it but I don't know if its worth it. any input? could it be a simple fix? Thanks

I always try to rebuild first because I think we have become too much of a "throw away" society. For the rebuild, the hardest part is usually getting off the cylinder cap. When I rebuilt mine (different brand), I used a large 3/4 inch socket, breaker bar and a 4 foot cheater bar. Other than that it's a few O rings, U cup, new oil and a couple hours of time. Then good for many more years.

Not exactly the same topic but kind of related, I've been wanting to service my Jack as I've had it for a few years, do I just need to add oil to it, or anything else? And is there a way to check the current oil? Im assuming it might already be full...

If the jack is otherwise working fine, then the oil volume is OK. I would not take it apart and rebuild unless it is leaking or doesn't work properly. I did notice when I rebuilt mine that the oil was pretty gross (black with sludge) and I will try replacing it every 5 years or so. The rubber fill/drain plug is on the top side of the cylinder.
