In laws are asking what I want for xmas. Well I need a new aluminum floor jack to replace the one I got from "Jegs". Price range $200 or less. If such jacks exist in this price range please let me know what is good or what to avoid.

I recently bought an Arcan ALJ3T, 3 ton aluminum, from Northern Tool. Gets under the Mustang and lifts my F-350. ($239.99 with free shipping via their Hotline Catalog) Didn't have much luck finding an aluminum jack for less. The local automotive store wanted $300 for the same jack. You could always ask for a gift card and fork out the extra change yourself.

I've had my craftsman aluminum jack for over ten years and the seal for the pump just started leaking a few months ago. Northern has what seems like a similar jack with two awesome aluminum stands for like 100 bucks right now, i think.

Hate not having the info with me, but Costco has a really nice looking floor jack for around $100. It's far nicer than the tiny one I have. If I can find the link tonight, I will add it.

My Craftsman .... aka made in China.... aluminum Floor jack also had problems with the seals. They blew out on the third time I used it. I was able to replace the seals thankfully but me and Mr. Roebuck are done.

just bought Pittsburghs Rapidjack 2.5 ton for a present to me and the wife.
She wants to clean up her undercarrage on her Mustang this year and I figured with this, I won't have to help her jack up the car....and if I do, it will be a little easier with the new jack.
My old hand me down still works, but is not as easy to use...it's always nice to have 2 jacks too!

I don't have a recommendation, but I do have a question. Why do people get aluminum jacks? Unless you are the jackman on a pit crew that has to jump over a wall with the jack And quickly lift up a light weight race car, I've never seen why people would want a lightweight jack. I've had the same steel jack for decades, and I feel confident that it will lift anything I put it under from a go cart to my old Diesel Excursion.

For me, less weight is always better if it'll do the job. Love my tiny 1.5 Al jacks for light jobs, I can easily "skid" them sideways into position, they don't hang up on errant pieces of gravel as easily, and can much more easily be jockeyed over cords, hoses, and whatever else is cluttering the shop floor. Plus if you want to take it with you on a trip in the tow rig you're not hefting a 90 to 110# jack in and out - there's more than just pit crews. I helped a woman change a flat with mine, I just happened to have my 2763 and impact sockets loaded up too from a recent cross country run with the trailer -- she thought I was a god (true, of course).

Maybe the better answer is: some of us just like tools.
