Floor jack repair

I have a 2.5 ton Allied jack that I have overall been happy with. It has been bleeding down, and I found the thread on adjusting the overload on it. It was about 5 turns out, but I also found a lot of oil on the release and the adjuster. I think it is time for a rebuild. It also has a broken spring that holds the handle up. Any advice on where to find the spring and the seals?

Most any specialty hydraulic repair shop will either have, or be able to order the seals you need. If you keep your eyes open at larger classic car shows or farm shows, there is also always at least one present amongst the other vendors. Sorry I cant remember the name of the company we used when I was still living on the farm.

For the cost of it, you may find buying another jack is more worthwhile as rebuilding hydraulics is either cheap and easy or ridiculously expensive. Ive rebuilt and machined cylinders for everything from jacks to cranes. Love the machining aspect, hate working with/testing seals.

That looks exactly the same as my craftsman 3 ton that also has a broken spring.

The springs can be sourced thru Mcmaster carr and numerous Industrial shops, They are called torsion springs and there is a Left and right. There Will "Not" be a Rebuild kit available for your jack but if you give me some measurements i can provide you with the proper seals.

Elroy would suggest you confirm that no one has fooled around with the pressure relief valve. Elroy has seen it before, where someone starts turning screws with no idea what they're doing and ends up backing off the relief pressure.

If you're lucky it might be a 5 minute fix. But then again if the main ram seal is indeed leaking, you got bigger internal problems.
