I'm working on sprucing up an old jack. What is the caster axle called? It's like a nail head on one side and flared out on the other. I'm assuming I can just smash it out with a punch and replace. So what is it called and where do I get one?

Thanks!

What is it?

An axle. :)

Where to get an exact OEM style? No idea.

Happy to help.

Replacement could just be a shaft of the appropriate length and diameter with retaining rings on the ends, like those other shafts with retaining rings you have in the picture. Or a bolt with a washer and nut.

Just why do you need/want to remove the caster axles and replace them?

Hi

Do not just hammer it out. Drill the riveted end with a drill slightly larger than the axle dia until you come down to the bracket and a tenth of a millimeter into the bracket.
The axle will then come out using very moderate force and not distort the bracket.

Go to a well stocked nuts/bolts shop and scrounge around for rivets until you find with same dia and long enough. Saw it off two millimeter longer than what the bracket is wide and after all is restored insert and rivet it in place.

If you have a lathe , center drill it like done on the original, makes it much easier to rivet.

Thanks guys. Anybody else know if the OEM style are available somewhere? I'd really like to keep it stock. No lathe or any machining abilities.
