I have a Snap On YA642 floor jack (the same as a Lincoln 93642 Series C) that I am restoring. I have taken it apart, cleaned it and repaired a few items. Now I am about to paint it and put it back to work.
The question I have is should I paint all the little parts first before assembly or assemble and then paint? My concern is if I paint first I will get better coverage and a nicer job, but the bolt heads etc. will get nicked up during assembly. If I assemble it first I will have a much harder time getting all the odd angles and parts painted in a even fashion. The third option would be to put few coats on with it apart and a few coats assembled.
I will be using rattle cans and yes I know it is a floor jack that will just get scratched up anyway, but I'd like to make it look nice for a least a little while.
