Floor Jack restoration

Looking for some help identifying this jack. It was my dad's and I think it broke back in the 80's. He always meant to rebuild it but never did. Wondering if you guys could ID this and I'm wondering it's worth tearing down, refinishing and rebuilding.

Hiball is the jack guru. Maybe he will chime in and tell you what you have. He can also sell you all the parts to rebuild at a very fair price.

It looks an old Hein-Werner jack. Getting the right rebuild kit for these is very difficult. Also, getting the piston/cylinder apart is a real hassle. I had to heat mine cherry red and use a long extension on a pipe wrench to get it to unscrew.

I had one almost exactly like that. I talked to a couple people recently and was told it's cheaper to buy a new one. So after 20 years of sitting broken in my dads garage I scrapped it last week.
I'm going to be upset if I find out it was an easy fix lol. Interested in seeing where this goes

You talked to the Wrong people unless it was completely rusted up and sat for along time without oil in it.

I think this thing has been inside up until recently. I was going through all the stuff he left and it was in the "scrap pile" outside the door. There's another jack in there too that I can pull out. I'm already tackling his 1978 KR537/KR577 toolbox and a ton of old snap-on tools. So I'm guessing it's a Hein Werner? I always thought it was a snap-on jack. It was one of the few that he could find which would get a VW bug high enough to remove the engine on a transmission jack. I know he was bummed when it stopped working.

No Im sorry, I dont believe its a HW. Im about 98% sure its a Import, HW made a L series jack that ive yet to identify but looking at the pictures and not seeing your typical HW qualities, No Grease Zerts on the Lift arm, The Caster assemblies etc.. Maybe flip it over and shoot a picture of the Underside?

The jack is back in Iowa, I'll have my mom flip it over and take some shots of the underside. If it's not worth restoring, what would a good value be on a Hein-Werner be?

What Model/Tonnage are you thinking about? New(Walker designed) or Older Hw designed?

Looks like a HW K and the Long frame is a 4 ton G, GA, GG, GH etc.. I believe based off the size comparison. Hard to tell for sure.. The Long frame could be a M which would be a 2ton.

I'd be after the small frame for space savings. What's the rating on the small one? I'm sure it will be cast into the lift arm. Also would $50ish be a fair price on the small one?

The jack pictured in the OP is an Ausco D7400. I have the same jack and it beats the hell out of the newer ones. It is "only" a 1 1/2 ton but it far out performs the 3 ton new jack I have.

Well worth rebuilding. Hit up HiBall. He helped me through a rebuild of a 4 ton Walker. EXCELLENT customer service.

I had a inkling that it might have been a Ausco at first but after looking at some of the characteristics I decided it had to be a import. Thanks for identifying it for the OP, I'm not real familiar with the Ausco stuff mainly because it just wasn't very common around here.

I Would buy the WS versus the K series Jack. If i recall the rebuild kit for that Ausco isnt too expensive. I would fix it..

I have the "little" 1 1/2 Ausco, a 4 ton Walker and 3 ton "good" china something or another.

The Ausco is my favorite and my go to jack. It out performs the 3 ton and is more manuvarable than the Walker. As long as it can be rebuilt I will rebuild it.

It really is a nice little jack and the rebuild kit is $24.95 through Blackhawk Parts. Hiball may be able to do you better but even if he is a dollar or two more the customer service is worth $50 more.

Wow, when it rains it pours. So I found a WS on craigslist here in San Diego for $60.

It's missing one of the bushings for the handle, and I'm guessing if those aren't available, I can turn one on the lathe. It works and I jacked up the front of my jeep with it when I got home. It won't go all the way up though. It appears to be a newer one as the tag is different, and it appears to be different from the other WS's I'm seeing. The ram appears to be the same though.

Then as I'm on my way home from picking it up, mom sends me pictures of the "brown jack" Guess what, it's another WS.

So now I need to rebuild a couple of them and the Ausco. I also need to find a bottle jack for my first piece of Hein-Werner gear, and restore my dad's snap-on tool chest.
