just a little heads up on the china jacks. i had one just like the o/p'ers its a nice light weight jack that i used for several years. then it started to leak oil then it wouldn't lift. so i took it apart to see if i could fix it. what i found was a badly rusted pited cylinder. these things do not have a seal on the shaft where it exits the cyinder. my problem was i washed my jack a few times when it got dirty and dusty. the water runs right in the cyinder through where the shaft exits and lays in there as there is no way for it to get out. soon you have a rusted pited cylinder that leaks. moral of this story don't get your jack wet :)

Ive Never seen a Jack that didnt have a Tank Nut Seal (Normally a Recessed Oring inside the Tank Nut). Are you saying it was Metal to Metal where the Cylinder exits thru the Tank Nut?

Here is a Picture that Covers a Tank Nut Seal Location.

1. "Michelin" branded 2.5 (or 3?) ton "SUV Jack" $100 at Cdn Tire on sale

Fits under the Porsche Boxster, goes up to 21". has the quick start where it goes up from rest to load in 1 stroke, then changes ratios for actual lifting. Steel. Heavy, I think about 90 lbs. Had it for 3 yrs?

2. Standard 2 ton garage jack, purchased at a door crasher sale at Cdn Tire, probably about 15 yrs ago... $25. No issues... goes to about 14" height?

I lift a vehicle probably 5-6x/yr (winter/spring tire changes, plus brake work)

I use the jackstands for brake work, or when I am under the vehicle, not for tire changes.

i've got two floor jack. on 3.5 ton arkan steel jack. and one HF aluminum racing jack. i think the HF is the small one. the arkan is great. i love it for working on my trucks that weigh 3 tons. the aluminum one is great for trips and lifting my smaller commuter car. the steel jack is 4ish years old now. still lowers slowly and feels tight. the HF one is new and i can actually lift it into he back of my truck. which i can't say about the steel one.

Please understand that I am looking for one that will lift over 24inches in height. And the AC jack is really out of my price range.

I also have two jacks. a craftsman 2-ton aluminum and Arcan 3.5 ton steel low profile.

The craftsman is light and lifts fast, but I actuall prefer the Arcan one. Its solid, actually lower profile, seems to lift higher, and is more controllable for a slow lower.

Best of all I got it at Costco for $90.
