There is no HF near by? How about Costco?
if you are talking about the steel yellow 3 ton jack, it's ok. have had my for 5 years, never leaked, or dropped. only thing I did when I first got it was to drain the hydraulic fluid out, it looked like piss. I replaced with with some $3 jack fluid from Napa, that's it.
In my area there is a wheel restoration specialist with a truck equipped to fix wheels on site. He uses two of the lightweight HF jacks (so he can lift one side of a car to access two wheels) and says they are great for his purposes because they work well and he does not have to carry cast iron jacks around. I have no experience with them myself.
I've used the HF "race" jack for 2 years now.

The jacks aren't bad, but if you've got a Costco near you and the ability to get in, the 3.5 ton Arcan is nearly impossible to beat for $99.99

I will vouch for harbor freight floor jacks... Had a yellow and grey 3 Ton for about 3 years of daily use in a heavy truck \ equipment repair shop. It lasted very well for what it cost and has been replaced by a new harbor freight 3 1/2 ton model that seems very high quality. It has a u - joint style linkage for connecting the twist handle to the cylinder lift unit. The handle action is nice and takes less pumps to raise. Also the way the handle is attached to the jack it kinda pivots on rollers that actuate twin pistons to get the lift... Pretty cool for harbor freight
Well, I was at a local Costco, today looked in there tool section and found the Arcan floor jack for $99. It wasnt the 3.5 ton it was the 3.25 ton. I bought it and am happy so far.Used it to test lift my Mazda 3 what a difference between the Arcan and the MVP i had from years ago which blew a seal and lost the fluid which no longer can lift at all.
I noticed the Arcan is made in China, if it lasts as long as my MVP ill be happy. Anybody no who makes the Arcans? Know anything about them?

I always suggest to anyone who buys any hydraulic tools from HF to go ahead and buy their extended warranty. Most people I know have had decent luck, but now and then a tool fails, and they are difficult to get repaired.
In fact, I advise people who are buying any tool with motor, pneumatics, hydraulics, or lots of moving parts to buy that warranty. HF wants to sell those warranties so much that, when something fails they don't CARE why. They replace it with no questions asked. Just figure that cost into the purchase price.

Good advice. It's what I usually do with such items from HF. I try not to buy much hydraulic or motorized tools from them, but when I bought the air straight grinder from them for like 10 bucks for very occasional use, I purchased the warranty just in case. I think it's like 1 or 2 years, I figure I'll find a way to wreck it by then and just get a new replacement.

I have the orange harbor freight jack, and love it. Has never let me down. Had it 5 years or so now.

I have one of their lightweight jacks, but I don't remember the model right now. I think I paid about $59 for it. It is a low-profile model to fit under a Corvette. It has worked fine for me.
I have an aluminum jack from a few years ago. The first one died, I swapped it out last February. It's starting to fail now. It also has a LOT of lateral give in it. I lifted up the rear of my older mazda pickup (with no bed) with the rear did and it was leaning to one side, had one wheel completely off the floor and almost let the truck drop. I found a new model they are carrying (68050) it's low profile and heavy. Going to swap it out tomorrow I think. I hope it does a little better. I gues I didn't need the light weight to sit in my garage anyways. It doesn't get moved too often.

Blackgold, are you referring to the 2ton jack with the low profile that they now carry? I am hoping to find some reviews on it because it looks perfect for my needs.
yes, the 68050. All the reviews I have read are good. I found a few corvette forums discussing it. 2 5/8 entry height and 23.something inches of lift. Pretty bad *** if you ask me. Atleast being under 200.. I've been comparing 300+ models to decide which I was ordering in a few weeks, randomly accidentally stumbled on that one yesterday at HF. Luckily they couldn't take my gift card. I may go tomorrow evening to get it. I will post back.

Racing sports cars we have use for a good jack. At a race we might jack the car up several times a weekend to change wheels, brake pads, bleed the brakes or just check on things around the brake calipers. For 15 years my son has used all kinds of jacks from Harbor Freight to Craftsman. This year at the PRI show he ordered a Brunnhoezl racing jack. Very low profile, strong, looks great but also expensive no matter which one you buy. Drool at www.Brunnhoelzl.com
