I have had that same 1 1/2 ton Green (Japan) Sears jack for 25 years,
have worked it pretty hard, even as a steering dolly for moving equipment.
It's really a pretty good piece.

I think it cost about a hundred bucks, in 1985.

Nice  :thumbup:That was 2 years before I was born!

If your Dad received it from your Granddad, he might be sentimentally attached. Perhaps you may want to have it repaired and cleaned up for him. Send a picture and PM to Hiball. He is the expert and might even do the repairs. He'll need some better pictures of the parts where the handle fits though. Hiball can also steer you to the new quality jacks that are available.

I already planned on doing that :) He loves this Jack.

That green jack looks very similar to my dad's Norco. I wonder if they made it for sears. I agree with the others, rebuild that jack. My dad's shop we have a 60 year old walker jack and a 40 year old Norco that we just recently overhauled because the seals were leaking. They work fantastically now, and provided years of good service. At My house I have a 12 year old silver sears jack and a roughly 5-6 year old black craftsman professional jack. I have not been able to source rebuild kits for either unit, both leak like sieves; I wish I had never bought them. I'll pay extra for an old walker off of craigslist and rebuild it before I buy another new jack.

If you have to go new, Norco still makes quality stuff, but it's not cheap.

Oh, and you don't need a low profile jack for an 80 Vette. I use both of the junk Craftsman jacks on my 69, which is the same Chassis.

I'm surprised no one said anything about a HF Jack yet. Must not be great jacks?

I cant comment too much but I believe HF just slaps there name on them and calls them "HF jacks." I THINK Hiball has good things to say about them but Im not 100% sure on that.

I've never actually seen a HF jack. Even when I have gone into HF. I've decieded I'm going to fix my dads. It will be cheaper and he loves this one!

I emailed Hiball a couple days ago and haven't heard from him. Has anyone talked with him recently?

Likewise here in favor of a green Sears jack from the mid-70s. 1-1/2 ton label rubbed away.

In this picture I was illustrating my "attachment" for lifting at the pinch weld.

For some reason, a couple years ago I fell to the lure of getting a cheap blue "michelin" labeled jack at Sam's Club. But 9 times out of 10, I'll pull it out of the way to get to this green one.
