Floor jack

I want to get a floor jack, but I'm not sure how to size it.

The heaviest car I have is a Honda Odyssey which weights 4500 lbs roughly. If I buy a 4000lb rated floor jack, is it enough?

I don't want to lift the whole thing off the ground at once. I'd lift one corner at a time, or at most, one side of the car at a time (say to change brake rotors on the front axle). So some of that 4500lbs is held up by the ground.

What size jack stands would be appropriate? I need to buy 2.

Thanks for the help.

Just buy the Arcan 3.25 ton at Costco for $105. I'd buy 4 floor jack stands. Makes tire rotating easier.

I don't have a Costco membership.

Is this the same one? Looks like an awesome buy.

Floor Jack at Northern Tool

then just get one and cancel it next week.

If you have a Horrific freight around I would check this thing out.

Not that much more and looks kinda cool. I have a harbor freight jack (dc model. old orange low profile 2 ton job that works alright)

Oh and invest in a set of jack stands if you dont already have them. skip over the little 4 tons or whatever if your doing anything bigger than a small sedan. I did brakes on my step moms crv and my crapsman 6 ton fleamarket finds were barely tall enough to get the tires off the ground. also bigger jack stands have a bigger safety margin. I would feel safer getting under a car with alot more cheep china casting supporting it rather than the toothpicks that most box stores try to sell you. :D

Good Luck

Yea, but too much money so I only bought two ARCAN. They are low enough to go under fold up engine hoist to make it easier to pin the legs. :D
