So my father has a Craftsman 2 ton floor jack he bought brand new.... in 1962 iirc. It's actually a Blackhawk. Well after 50 years of faithful service, it lost it's gusto. Wouldnt hold anything up for any amount of time. He still has the owners manual which includes a parts diagram and part numbers. He ordered a rebuild kit for it and got it. His eye sight is poor at best, he's legally blind so he took it into a local hydraulic company to be rebuilt. They called him and said it's not worth fixing, the pump body is damaged from scraping on concrete. The pump body is no longer available of course. Well, there's two problems with this. His garage floor is plywood and that's the only place this jack has been used since 1974, and after I inspected it, the outside of the body looks like brand new. After talking to several people, they all say the same thing, that company is a rip off and all they do is sell you new jacks. Second problem is I didn't know any of this was going on until my dad asked me come look at the pump housing. The jack is completely disassembled. I have no idea how it goes back together. I tried for a few hours, was able to figure some of it out by looking at the parts diagram, but not all of it. I can't find a local place that will fix it or even wants to look at it. He doesnt want another jack, he's stubborn and now I'm caught in the middle. I even offered to buy a new one and he dismissed the idea. Thoughts or idea's?

Buy yourself a used or new one kind of like it. Tear it apart and learn how they go together. Or find some local jack guru who can help.

Rebuilding a good, U.S. made jack is much to be preferred over buying any of the off-shore made jacks available today. GJ member HiBall will probably see this thread and chime in--he is a master hydraulic jack rebuilder.

Can you post some pictures of what you have? I'm sure there are more than a few GJ members here who would love to help you get this together.

I actually pm'd him some time ago and he offered, but the jack was still at my parents. Well it's in my garage now. My parents are in FL for the winter. He keeps asking me if I've done anything with it yet. I know it's bothering him. I'll try to grab some pics and throw them up later.

There arent any USA made decent floor jacks? I thought Hein-Werner were good. They should be for $600 for a 3 ton floor jack!

not any more ,there aren't.

True and True... 1. There not $600 and while they are still assembled in KC Mo, there are some parts that sourced from overseas, more than likely from there Shinn fu plants. With that said... They still utilize the same hydraulic unit designs with top tier Seals that are battle tested.

There are. Milwaukee Hydraulics Model 20 and Model 40. Weaver is making long reach jacks :)scared: $$$ :scared: ), and US Jacks is also making them here. None of them are inexpensive.
