Alright, I need to get some taller jack stands and a long frame floor jack to get my truck up higher. Bottom of the frame sits about 25" from the ground, truck weights in around 5k lbs.

Does anyone have any recommendations on where to shop or what to get. Id like to get good stuff but not overkill or the fancy equipment. Thanks.

Check to see if you have a Harbor Freight around you. I don't think anyone has ever had a problem with their jackstands. Although, they may not go as high as you need. I'm not sure how safe it would be to build a platform for them to sit on in order to raise it up, in terms of toppling over.

You may also find the jack you need there. Basically the whole store is made in China stuff, but for a lot of the things, you really can't go wrong.

AC Hydraulics make some nice, high-lift floor jacks. Kinda spendy, but worth it.

I have 4 of their 6 ton jackstands that I put my 3300 lb Corvette on. They make me feel more than safe. I also use the lightweight aluminum jack from HF... works well and is easy to use. I haven't had any problems with it, although I have had some problems with Craftsman jacks...

HF is an excellent place for stuff like jack stands and floor jacks. Another suggestion since you say you are working on a truck would be an end lift jack. Anymore an end lift is only good for old cars, or trucks. Many times they can be found used for good money, even thet air assist type at auctions can go for no more than 2-3 hundred. I have an old Walker hydraulic, non air assist end lift that I use to raise my trucks all the time, I love it, it's incredible how high that old end lift can hike either end of my trucks! If you do get an end lift, be carefull how you use it, if you are not carefull they can be a bit dangerous. Good Luck!

Personally, I would NEVER EVER get jackstands from HF... I know your not goign to be able to find USA made ones even close to affordable, so they are coming from asia no matter what. Id say get them from Torin/Big Red... Just get them from a big name company. Torin claims to be one of the largest manufacturers of this sort of equipment... dont chance it at HF.

HEad over to pirate4X4.com and do a search or make a thread in the shop and tool section to see what those guys do. They drive some serious trucks, so they run into the same problem as you do, sometimes even worse

I've seen that Torin/Big Red stuff at a local Pep Boys store. Stuff like jack stands, enige stands, and engine hoists. They didn't seem much different than typical HF stuff to me.

Not exactly top quality but the reason I recommended them was because they put thier products through a great deal of testing, look it up. They might be made overseas, but they are still one of the biggest makers around

Gotta disagree with you here, Jim. Have you seen the 6 ton jackstands at HF??? I cannot imagine that they are that much different than any of the other imported junk. In fact, the HF ones are superior to most of the other ones I've seen in other stores (remember, I am talking about the orange 6 ton jackstands). I have been under numerous car with them and feel completely safe. In fact, they are probably overkill.

The 6 ton 'chrome' GoodYear jack stands at Sam's club have me seriously intrigued. I've looked at them many times: beefy, flat bottoms = won't cut my epoxy floor and even have an extra safety pin.

$24 per pair

25" is pretty high already. On a normal car you can usually do a transmission/clutch R&R at that height quite comfortably. I don't think you'll find many jack stands that'll go higher than 25". But then again they could be common in the 4x4 world so I'd do a search at pirate4x4 as someone recommended.

I've used a set of the 12 ton harbor freight ones. They go really high, much higher then the average 6 ton stands. My buddy has never had a problem with them. I would feel safe working on a bigger then 1 ton truck with the 12 ton stands any day.

I've requested some info from aC on their products and US distributors...I've seen their stuff before and it's pretty nice. Pricey? Maybe...but how much is your life worth?

VERY pricey and worth every penny in my opinion ! Love mine and never sorry I bought them.

25" won't quite reach my frame rails.

Right that's what I was saying, if your frame rails are 25" you'll need the jack stands that will go higher (depending on what you'll be doing) than that and personally I haven't seen any jack stands that'll go higher than 27". I'm sure they're out there but I haven't seen any...

Just build your own...pin-type jacks are an easy weekend project if you have cutting and welding equipment. Even if you only have a welder, buy the steel pre-cut...make some plans (copy existing designs)...stitch 'em together...make 'em as high as you want.

These won't go that high BUT man they are nice...
