Does anyone have experience with mounting an air hose reel to the floor? Did it work well? Advantages/disadvantages?

Can't you hang it across two 2 X 4 studs? I'd think having it on the floor would make a trip hazard.
2nd this. I'd get it up off of the floor. (I know. I know. That's what she said.) But I'd hang it from the wall or the ceiling if it were me.

I know someone that placed hose reals by each lathe in a machine shop. They ran the power and airlines thru the floor and came up at each workstation. They had an overhead crane so going from the ceiling wasn't an option. They built a cage like structure and bolted it to the floor then mounted the reals to that. They also used the small hose reals as this was to primarily be used with blow guns. It has been in place for a couple of years with no complaints.

I have mine on bolted to the floor next to my compressor and tool box. I have an attached garage and mounting it on the wall would resonate the sound of the reel through out the house when pulling out and retracting. The compressor makes too much noise already. to me it feels more secure attached to concrete than wood wall. Its been 2 years now and its holding up very well from abuse. The only downside is if you have to relocate it. You will have 4 bolts stuck on the floor and you have to cut them flush to the floor.

I mounted mine to the frame from an old pressure washer. Steel plate, 4 holes and bolt it on. The you can roll it where you need it.

Thanks for the input. Some background: Ceiling location where I want the air source is 12' up, and I would also have interference from one track/rail of the garage door. My shop is a SIP building (Structured Insulated Panels). SIPs are strong enough for many things hanging on it. Plus I sheathed my SIP panels with another 1/2" sheet of plywood on top of the 5/8 strand board. But still, there isn't a real 2X4 type member at the spot on the wall where the reel would be most appropriate. So.... that sends me to thinking about putting on the floor. Note, this is one of those heavy metal reels.

Wondering if anyone had pictures of their installation? How many times have you tripped over it? etc. Nikon_RH50, I appreciate your input.

You can mount it to the ceiling 12' up and then put one of those blocks on the hose to limit the retraction to a hose length that would be within reach. Follow me? The hose should have one of those blocks on it anyways, should just be a matter of moving it down the length of the hose some.
