Floor painting quandry

Hi,

I have a 3 car garage with a partition wall separating a single car bay from a two car bay. The partition wall allows access between the two sides via a space about 4ft. wide. So, when I paint the floor, (Groit's Garage Epoxy) I plan to do one side at a time so that I can move some cabinets and "stuff" back and forth during the painting. The question is, how to handle it. Should I paint one side, let it cure completely and then do the other, accepting some potential difference in the floor paint at that spot where the bays meet, or do one side and before it cures do the other side? If I do the latter, how soon could I move "stuff" onto the paint? Griot's says fours days before parking on it but they don't mention how soon you could walk or put other light items on it.

Thanks,

Ron

Hey Ron!

I think your questions about drying time for foot traffic would be better addressed to the manufacturer. Folks here will have their own experiences but all that stuff varies with temperature, humidity, etc.

As to the "line" between the two sides, I don't think you need to worry! Even if there were a pronounced line (which there won't be) it won't show much when across a doorway. That's the ideal spot for a line like that.

We have ceramic floor tile in a laundry room with a nasty color difference due to the inability to buy enough tiles from the same dye lot, and after a short while, you don't even notice it anymore.

If you're doing the two sides right after each other, from the same lot of material, any color difference will be almost zero...

Thanks,

I have asked Griot's and expect to hear from them soon. I figure there is a lot of good info here too though. Thanks for your input. I am sure you are right about the difference being not noticible...but you know how it is..I'll know its there and it will bug me. I wish there was a 12 step program for that!

Cheers,

Ron

If you feel like there is going to be a huge difference in the color, what about the possibility of adding a coordinating color line between the two for a divider?

That's a great idea! Also, many contractors cut a 'keyhole' (a straight line with a diamond blade on a circular saw or grinder) where the two coatings will meet.
