Floor Plate Lifts?

Hi All, My first post here.. I am consdiering building a 15' x 40' garage here in Florida, with 11' Wall Height. My contractor says he can build the roof trusses so that I have a bit more room overhead inside.

But I still dont think I will have 12' square needed for a 2 post lift, so I am considering one with a Floor Plate.

I am wondering the downsides to floor plate lifts? Any smaller lift owners please tell me about your lift?

I used to work under a floor plate lift. It is fine till you have to use a trans jack in a rear wheel drive car. It is doable but annoying as hell dealing with a trans jack over that slight hump.

I do like lifts with a clear floor, and believe that the overhead cable assembly would make the lift more rigid, because the posts are connected to each other top and bottom(by the floor). Could you fit the top crossover section between the rafters? If you decide on a Mohawk lift, you only have a couple of hydraulic lines that can be routed up against the ceiling.

I have a very heavy duty 9K Weaver floor plate lift... I bought it used and it's been fine... I hardly even notice the floor plate anymore.

Mine is just as sturdy as any newer lift as it's constructed of 1/2" and 3/4' thick structural steel... plus it's bolted down with 1" diameter Wej-it fasteners... I think there are 16 of them.
