I need some advice on floor prep. My plan is to epoxy my garage floor (I haven't selected the system, but plan to choose either 100% solids or very high solids epoxy, with a clear coat, with UV inhibitors).
Note the two pictures below.
The slab is just shy of 3 years old, and the house hasn't been occupied, so there has been no cars parked, oil leaks from cars, etc on the slab.
I acid etched it and powerwashed several times. See the DRY pic - it shows some "brush marks" which is from the wand of the power washer. I'm trying to get all the laitance / etched residue off.
Now look at the WET picture - it is the same area (line up the control joint near the top of each). Notice that there are several areas that show up only when wet.
My assumption is that the painter got paint on the slab & used something to wipe it off- maybe goof-off, maybe something else, and there is some penetration into the slab.
More muriatic acid doesn't touch it.
While the large splotches are probably not in a section of the garage that will see hot tires, I still want to make sure I have the best shot at adhesion.
Notice there are also smaller splotches - the size of a quarter, some smaller, some larger. This picture doesn't show many, but the rest of the slab has a ton of them.
My guess is they are either from sheetrock mud or perhaps from paint -- there shouldn't have been anything else contaminating the surface of the slab.
Most of these do not seem to "bead water", but some do slightly.
How do I get these off?
Am I worrying over nothing?
Thanks!
