Hello, I just bought a place with a 26X40 garage and would like to coat the floors before we start to move everything in. There`s a few oil stains and there`s about a 12ft section that had been coated before with some cheap stuff, about 30% of that has chiped away from normal wear and tear. What`s the best way to clean this floor before i coat it? Is there a machine i can rent of something? What do you guy`s recommend. THANKS! My first post, looks like a great board!:):)

Welcome.

I think the common response will be to follow the directions of whatever product you decide on but I can bet that will include diamond grinding the floor.

The first step should be to take care of the oil stain with a good degreaser. Then, you could rent a concrete floor grinder and get the the old paint out and get the entire surface roughened up. Any epoxy or any other coating that you pick would have a good chance of adhering and its life is extended considerably.

Make sure the floor is completely dust free and dry before you apply.
