I'm planning on covering my garage floor with epoxy-coat and would like to be certain I prep the floor adequately. My garage is only about 2 years old but has few oil and paint stains.

Any recommendations on sanding versus using a degreaser/acid etching or both?

Thanks.

Jim

Clean the oils with a good degreaser (Simple Green, Dawn dish soap, Zep, etc.) and sand the paint way. Use a chemical etcher as recommended by the Mfg., or diluted muriatic acid or grind the floor with a diamond grinder. Grinding the floor can leave "swirl" markes created by the machine, so smooth it out with successively finer grades of the stones to make the surface smooth. Depending on the overall thickness of the coating applied, these marks could be noticeable.
