So as far as I can see, the components needed to install a typical wall style receptacle in a floor is the same metal box, receptacle but the cover plate is heavier and usually has some sort of screw in cover or recessed hinge. Is this the case? If so, can I not just buy the receptacle cover plate and install the box/receptacle as per usual? I don't want to buy a whole kit (which includes the box, receptacle marrs AND cover plate).

Does anyone have any leads on where I can get a simple metal (not brass or gold or titanium) plate with screw in receptacle covers? This doesn't seem to be rocket science but at $60 or $70 for each unit, and I need 4, this seems a bit outrageous.

I know you can get them for closer to $50, and a single outlet for around $25, but due to it being a low volume product there just isnt a $10 version on the market. I dont think you can use any old box with a floor cover, I think it has to be a listed assembly.

Some residential areas won't let you put a floor outlet in a house, or so was the case with a buddy of mine. When he built his house, he said something to the inspector about it and the answer was "no". Commercial yes, residential no.

Sorry, but you have no choice but to spend the money.Leviton,Cooper or P/S are your most popular choices, you may save a buck or two at the most if you shop around, the mfgs know they have you by the ..... and take advantage of it.Usually once I tell people how much the receptacle costs, they move on to plan B.I may have some new ones I could sell you,I'll look in my pile later today.
