Floor replacment

Im in the process of replacing part of the floor on my 1965 Old's Cutlass. I'm using a pre made replacement panel overlapping the original floor by about 1"I'm thinking that I can punch holes in the replacement panel every inch and plug weld or do a full seam weld. I would appreciate your thoughts..

I would suggest welding the seam fully on both sides of the panel after plug welding to help seal up the overlap from moisture. Ideally you would mark and trim the panel for perfect fitment and do a no lap **** weld but that takes a little more effort and talent. If the one inch flange of the original panel you are overlapping has zero rust it would still be an acceptable home repair. Weld through primer on the inner faces of the joint might give a little extra corrosion protection as well but I'm not a big fan of the stuff. Just know that it will not last as long as the original floor no matter how well you seal up the seam. Check out MP&C's project thread on here before you get started. There is also a patch panel thread that has various ideas on how to address similar repairs.

**** weld if at all possible. IMO, it's worth the time / effort to do it right.

If you're doing a restoration then the right way to do it is to **** weld and finish both sides. If you're doing a repair then the plug weld with weld through primer and seam sealer will work. It will significantly reduce the value of the car to do it that way however.
