I'm installing hardwood in my foyer and kitchen. All the old flooring is out and I'm ready to start laying the hardwood.
I've got a serious squeak at the landing of the stairs in the front hall right where you step off.
I ran 2" screws through the sub-floor into the joists every 4" with pre-drilling and it still squeaks. There are no seams in the sub-floor in that area; it's in the middle of a sheet of plywood.
I have a basement so there's access to the joist area. I tried driving shims in between the joists and sub-floor but there's construction adhesive preventing that.
What is causing this and how can I fix it before I lay the hardwood?
