Floor waxing?

I'm getting ready to pour a 72 x 40 slab. 52' is for the shop, and 20' is for the attached house.

A 500 sq ft room (20x25) will be for a lift bay, and I'm thinking of some sort of coating that will help keep oil stains at bay.

Another 500 sq ft will be for a wood shop, and I want nothing slick or slippery on the floor. Bare concrete should be fine.

For the other 1,000 sq ft, my dad keeps telling me to hire a floor waxing guy, like they do in in grocery stores. Does anybody still do this? Anybody here have any experience with it?

My dad's a smart guy, but sometimes still live in the past.

Opinions on what (if anything) to put down on the 3 different floors would be appreciated. Keep in mind that there's a budget, and floor coatings aren;'t really in it.

Lot's of places still wax floors , but wax is water based and any type of solvent or even a strong cleaner like Purple Power will cause it to breakdown in a matter of seconds and it is like hitting a ice spot on the road that is how slick it will be until it dries. Plus it will lose it's luster in short order unless you plan on keeping it buffed ( burnished ) The more you buff it the harder it becomes and the longer it will hold it's luster.

Have you looked into HD40 with some cherry wax? Search HD40 on this site, I think that's the look you will be wanting for the "other 1000 sq ft". Fairly inexpensive and you can easily do it yourself

Hi,
You can get the look of a waxed floor without the recurring re-waxing by using clear SPGX Polyurea coating. Goes on fast and easy and zero maintenance and super resistant to all kinds of auto fluids and such.

Sounds interesting. How many sq ft/gallon, and how many coats do you recommend?

Website feedback: it would be great to be able to calculate shipping without having to enter everything, including a credit card number.

Look into Ghostshield products. Get the concentrate. The vendors here carry it. For the total cost of the concrete the protection is cheap insurance.

Hi,
Ghostshield 8505 comes in concentrate, the stronger/more durable 8510 only comes ready-to-use. Densifier does come concentrated.

Is there a "garage floor coatings 101" thread?

There's so many terms & trade names that it's difficult to even begin to think about coatings - mostly because there's 9,000 other things that need right now.
