What sort of flooring do you guys have in your welding area? So far as I can see the options are concrete or possibly ceramic tiles - anything else being a fire hazard?

I currently have the same question. I have an epoxied floor and am covering the floor around the welding area with a welding blanket.

On some jobs we lay down masonite or plywood with fire blankets on top.

I have an unprotected epoxy floor, I suspect because I know I can refinish it, but I don't, and it has held up fine.
About a week ago I was cutting something with the plasma and had to move the hot parts around a while, so they would not burn a hole. On the next part I laid down a corrugated tin sheet to catch the slag and hot parts.

I think floors should be used like a tool. Buy a good one and it will last, it should have a few blemishes like a hammer, it's not a torque wrench.

If given a chance floors acquire a patina, with stories to tell.
