Im about to close on my new home and wanted to redo the garage floor. The floor is 13 years old and has been painted but they didnt prep it right so the paint lifted and you can see oil spots and such. So i read tons of posts on epoxy but i need to do more prep work then i want to so i looked at floor tiles i have 1 sample from racedeck, 3 from garage flooring llc. And 1 coaster sized from tuff seal. I nixed the tuffseal right away. But im stuck between the other 2. My dilemma is i do alot of mechanic work so oil, trans fluid it does land on the floor, the issue is these fluids go between the tiles and end up on the floor underneath( i snapped the 3 samples from GF LLC. And poured a little oil on it) i dont want to pull up tiles to clean underneath every time something spills or leaks. Is there any other alternative to have a nice useble surface thats easy to clean without alot of prepwork? I only have 1 tile from RD so i dont know if theres fits tighter to prevent this.
@stanleyoutdoors thanks for the suggestion of BLT it is a great product.
1. The BLT garage floor mats are great. With a little seam tape you can pretty much guarantee that nothing will get to the concrete below it. The downside, or potential downside is if you let anything sit on PVC for an extended period of time. If you clean spills right away this will not be an issue.
2. Tiles. Polypropylene tiles by design have a very tight gap between each tile. Completely eliminating that gap can cause issues -- we saw massive failures with Dynotile for example because they did not allow for expansion and contraction. That said, even water will sit on these tiles for a period of time before it begins to penetrate at the seam. Oil takes longer but both will eventually go through. If you are going to be leaving large leaks on any floor for an extended period of time, I would recommend
RAM Board from a local building center, a containment mat or a Drymate absorbent mat over the flooring choice and under the car you are working one
