Im about to close on my new home and wanted to redo the garage floor. The floor is 13 years old and has been painted but they didnt prep it right so the paint lifted and you can see oil spots and such. So i read tons of posts on epoxy but i need to do more prep work then i want to so i looked at floor tiles i have 1 sample from racedeck, 3 from garage flooring llc. And 1 coaster sized from tuff seal. I nixed the tuffseal right away. But im stuck between the other 2. My dilemma is i do alot of mechanic work so oil, trans fluid it does land on the floor, the issue is these fluids go between the tiles and end up on the floor underneath( i snapped the 3 samples from GF LLC. And poured a little oil on it) i dont want to pull up tiles to clean underneath every time something spills or leaks. Is there any other alternative to have a nice useble surface thats easy to clean without alot of prepwork? I only have 1 tile from RD so i dont know if theres fits tighter to prevent this.

@stanleyoutdoors thanks for the suggestion of BLT it is a great product.

1. The BLT garage floor mats are great. With a little seam tape you can pretty much guarantee that nothing will get to the concrete below it. The downside, or potential downside is if you let anything sit on PVC for an extended period of time. If you clean spills right away this will not be an issue.

2. Tiles. Polypropylene tiles by design have a very tight gap between each tile. Completely eliminating that gap can cause issues -- we saw massive failures with Dynotile for example because they did not allow for expansion and contraction. That said, even water will sit on these tiles for a period of time before it begins to penetrate at the seam. Oil takes longer but both will eventually go through. If you are going to be leaving large leaks on any floor for an extended period of time, I would recommend RAM Board from a local building center, a containment mat or a Drymate absorbent mat over the flooring choice and under the car you are working one

I had the big rubber mats from BLT in my last garage. I threw them out when I moved. They shriveled up in spots where oil sat on them for a while and tended to bunch up if you rolled a jack across them or turned a wheel.

Forgot this pic. Again, if left alone it will go through, but for brief periods the seams are pretty tight.

Those are the exact ones i have samples of i put a half a cup of oil on it overlapping both of the tiles let it sit fo 30sec. wiped it up the tiles cleaned easy. i picked them up and oil was on the floor underneath and still inbetween the tiles. will they be tighter if laid out with weight on them for an extended periode of time? i would think if they expand and contract abit it might make a difference. i really like the tiles alot other than that.

If you are going to have that much oil right on a seam then yes its going to go through although I am surprised it went through that quick. We have them installed in countless shops, etc. If you really want to make sure nothing gets through you are going to need to cover that area... I like drymate for that but their are cheaper options. Ram Board is awesome.

@albaran: Sorry to hear about that. Different applications require different products and even within the BLT line I will make different recommendation depending on the application. It is a great product but if oil is left there unchecked for an extended period of time it can cause aesthetic issues. They have new products for that too...
