Good evening, all. We're getting our shop built and will have lots of questions to throw at y'all. But the question for this evening is about flooring.
We are getting a "30 x 50" pole barn built. The reason for the quotes is because that is what is going to be under the roof and on a continuous 4" concrete slab. Consists of a 30 x 30 shop, 10 x 30 area split between a storage room and an office for the wife, and a 10 x 30 porch. My wife wants to put laminate or vinyl plank flooring in the office/storage area. Which of these two would be best for this application? I'm thinking the vinyl, because it will be more waterproof. At the same time though, I'm worried about it trapping moisture under it, which could lead to all sorts of problems.
I'm somewhat aware the fact that the slab will be releasing moisture for a period of time, but I'm not well versed in this sort of thing. What recommendations do you folks have for me, or what other information do you need from me in order to be able to provide some guidance.

Thanks in advance.

Scott

Hi, you may want to take a look at our www.supratile.com.

These are industrial grade solid PVC interlocking tiles available in solid colors and stone/wood looks. The tiles are virtually waterproof but since they have joints vapor pressure can escape.

We sell these frequently in fire houses in their radio and supply rooms and such.

We have a large selection of garage tiles, most made in the USA. Have a look and give me a call so I can send some samples

Ive installed wood laminate before. I am assuming thats what you are asking about since you are saying its for in an office.

You put a moisture barrier under it.

Good thing about wood laminate flooring is its generally SUPER cheap so if in a few years its damaged or what not, you can replace it pretty cheaply and easily since it floats and just snaps together.

I paid $1 a sq. ft. all in for the one I did a few years ago. That was all bought from a flooring wholesaler that sells to the public. I think it was 12mm(there are varying thickness's). Most people thought it was real wood until I pointed out it was basically plastic. My wife when she first moved into my house wanted to wax it... im like "wax what" she says "the wood floor" and I said "its plastic LOL"... she had no clue...

My buddy just did like 1000 sq. ft. of Life Proof laminate in the main floor of their house and it looks great and I think the warranty is really really goood.

IMHO, It's a shop, not a showplace.

I made the mistake of allowing Dear Wife order a floor that was too pretty to work on.

She is a Pretty and a Good Cook, so I am keeping her.
