I need to install some hardwood flooring but dont have a floor gun. Should I go cheap at HF or spring for a Bostich? No used ones for sale around here. And it will be used at our cabin which means I will have it for about 10 days since there is no rental place there and buying would therefore be cheaper than renting7

I replaced half the oak floor in one room with one of those.. i have one major recommendation. Get one that works with a compressor. I didnt.. it wasnt fun. The manual ones, youre just using the tool to feed and hold everything in place. You’re still driving the nails with a hammer blow, and itll take multiple hits to drive each nail. Not fun being bent over swinging a hammer like that, and taking 3, 4 hits to set every nail.

I will never do that again - if i ever need to..

Was just going to add - I’d buy the cheap HF or HDX versions in a HEARTBEAT if i had to do this again.

you dont need to buy an expensive version. Brand name and advertising account for big portion of the prices.. not saying they aren’t made to last 20 years of constant abuse, but YOU dont NEED that.

Harbor freight has one, Home Depot has an hdx model.. buy / borrow a cheap small compressor if you dont have one.. (husky or harbor freight) you dont need anything big. A pancake will probably be all you need, (and at least that can be used for other stuff, like the molding youll need to install) I promise you - after you finish the first piece with a manual nailer - you WILL say - I should have gotten the air powered.

I've been told if you got the "cheap route" for the flooring gun, to get name brand fasteners.

I've used two manual models and won't do that a third time!

One of the few used tools I have bought on eBay is flooring nailer. It is a Freeman or something like that, which, I think, is the Home Depot house brand.

It was in the original box, complete withe the cardboard sleeve and
plastic case, and a bunch of nails.

Claimed to have been used for one room only, and that was probably a truthful statement.

Anything will work for a small project. When I first started doing hardwood floors about 10 years ago I had two guns. A manual porta nails gun that I bought at a flea market for $20. It worked but sucked and a Central Pneumatic fom Harbor Freight. I used the CP gun for two years before upgrading to a Bostitch. Later wound up with a Dewalt as well. Honestly they all do the same thing and of the 3 pneumatic guns I've owned I rank the Dewalt as best. Harbor Freight as worst but still made alot of money with it
