So my hot water heater went a few weeks ago in my detached garage and was running for most of the day. A small bathroom wall and the floor and drywall of a mid size room, 14x24, is now torn up. The room mainly held a pool table on some carpet. When I moved in 7 years ago I didn't know what to do with the room so we tossed the pool table in there. It's the main entrance to the detached garage and adjacent to the garage bays. The carpet was destroyed form working in the garage and walking in and out. The pool table is going to be moved into the basement of the house so now I have a 14x24 room I need to floor and I'm having a hard time deciding on what. The garage is VCT which you all helped me decide on and I love it. Just not sure if I want that in a "room". My thought is to move some stuff from the garage to free up some space and make it like a workshop room. I'll put in some benches and cabinets. Move my press, bench grinder, parts washer etc in there so I'm not working next to the cars.

A coating would be most typical for a workshop. We have lots to chose from as do several other very good vendors on the forum.

what can you say about the coating as far as peeling up? The first thing I did when I bought this house was research (or so I thought) and purchased an epoxy floor kit. Three of us did it one morning in cool temps. Followed the directions with acid etching and then rolling out the floor. I let it cure for a week and the first time I parked the car and let it sit for a few days it peeled up when I moved it so I got away from coatings. Seems like they need a new floor or grinding before applying.

You would definitely grind off any old coating
