Hi all,
I'm planning on a barn/woodshop and am close to complete on some sketchups and starting to really think about materials. The structure will be a 28x28 with a 12x20 on the back gable end. (I need to jog this to avoid sideline setback issues) My plan was to have a drive on floor hung from the foundation and some storage under the building.
While clearing the site of trees and scrub, we found that the ground water is about 12-24" below the surface. So, my question is what would you do to protect the machines targeted for this space to avoid excess moisture/rust?
I've got the typical complement of machines, table saw, lathe, band saw etc.
Current thinking options:
1. Advantech (1") on 2x10 on 12" centers. Insulated below with rigid foam.
2. T&G plywood over a rubber membrane with t&g spruce as the final floor.
3. Skip the whole thing and backfill and pour the floor on grade.
My goals are primarily moisture avoidance and the ability to run dust collection below the floor. So option 3 above is my least fav.
Ideas? Anyone deal with similar problems?
thanks,
-Tom
