Ha! I'm doing that right now.
I have 5/8" plywood subfloors. The existing tile was on top of a hard, fiber backer board. Man, was that a pain in the *** to rip that out. That said, once it's out and all the nails are pulled it's clean and ready for the hardwood.
Since your tile is on concrete you may have a hell of a time getting all the thinset up. I used a 15" Wonder bar to pop each tile and then the backer board underneath. About half the tiles broke due to prying.
I took a day off from work today to work on the hardwood with no one else around the house. The main fields go pretty quickly, but the cutting in around cabinets, doors and adjacent flooring types (in my case carpet) just eats up time.
Doing in myself I won't save any money. But it will get done the way *I* want it done.
