Here's a picture of my garage that is nearing completeion.
It was started in January this year.
24 X 28 two story gambrel metal roof.
It's the largest that would be allowed on the property that space allows.
It was just insulated and sheetrocked. Now the electrician has to come back to hook everything up.
I am planning on a floating laminate floor upstairs.
I uped the amps to the main house to 200 with a 100 amp dropper to the garage. Two mini splits A/C; one for each floor so there will be no mixing of air. Tankless water heater with a full bath upstairs. Just a wash sink downstairs. It's been a lot of work, over budget but it is getting there!

Here is a picture of the foundation after it was first poured.

Two mini splits A/C; one for each floor!

Great idea! Sure makes working there more comfortable. And there is plenty of power to go around.

I was going to post that I hate you for the A/C, but I won't go that far.

Here are some more pictures of the build.
Those trusses were put in place in about 20 minutes!
Those verticle struts are only for stability until placed and are then removed.
The second floor is fully open and I'll show pictures later.
The hurricane strapping, required in Florida, is intense!
After the plywood wraps the entire structure a membrane is placed for under the metal roof. Any fastener penetration is sealed by the membrane.
The aluminum roof is fastened by all stainless fasteners that are covered. It should be problem free. The warrantee is for 45 years! I won't be around by then.

I didn't originally plan for an A/C system but my Florida friends convinced me.
I was a Chevy mechanic in CT for 25 years. For 15 of those years I worked in a greenhouse with only a fan at my back while working. It kept folks from watching me work! I'll admit that when the thermometer hit 100F I closed shop! I had a propane heater in the tool room and a salamander in the shop for winter days.

I've thought about building this garage for 30 years. The plans were all in my head but the town wanted a formal set. The architect drawings cost me $1700.00!

Here are a couple more pictures.
The downstairs showing the stairs going to the second floor.
The stairwell was designed by the architech to be closed off with a door on the end for storage. I asked the builder to close off the door and open up the stirwell void for a refrigerator and freezer. We get good runs of shrimp down here and you are allowed a five gallon bucket a night! I plan on filling that freezer up with shrimp! I really like any kind of fish or SHELLFISH!
The refrigerator is for, what else, beer!
Upstairs is wide open and I plan to use it for a library, map room and general man cave.

Downstairs is for my toys.
I have a one owner 1975 Chevy Luv truck with a 327 V8, turbo 350 and a narrowed 12 bolt rear with Summers Bros axles.
1993 Harley Wide Glide. The 40th birthday present to myself
Two 1976 550 Hondas. A F and a K. The F is one owner; me!
Two roll around tool boxes with top boxes, benches, compressor, jack stands, jack, torches, drill press, 12 ton press, etc, etc.
I think it will be pretty much full and it isn't even done yet!
I wish it were bigger already!

I love your garage....I'm in the middle of a 30' X 40' gambrel garage build I have asked my framer to add some dormer windows he states this is going to be a difficult process due to the gambrel truss design..Do you have any pictures you could email me of the modifications you made to the trusses to frame the dormer windows.

The garage is coming along. The wiring and insulation was installed and I put extra wiring in before the sheet rockers did their thing. I hard wired it for the alarm and fire alarms as I don't like having to replace batteries every one or two years. I also think it sends out an alarm to the monitoring company if the batteries fail! It was sheet rocked, taped and ready for paint.
Anyhow I did manage to paint the inside on my last trip down. 10 gallons of primer for two floors inside then I had to start all over with another 10 gallons for the final coat! What a bummer! I really don't like painting inside!

Well here are a few pictures of before and after painting; two from each floor.
I never got to put down the second story flooring and that awaits. I did pick the flooring up from Lumber Liqidataors. 6mm laminate Oak.
I'm real close to getting the C O and I only need to put in the handrail in the stairwell. It's getting there for 10 months so far.

Boy, Somebody has been busy working in the shop. Progress looks great. I know how it feels to get a coat of paint on new drywall that you installed and fished. Congrats!
