I am taking some old flourescent light fixtures out of the house and putting them in the garage. They are 4' long with four tubes. I have one fixture in which the two outer bulbs light but the inner ones dont, whats wrong? what needs replaced?? thanks-

Dan,
are they wired so all four come one?
sometimes the circuit is split that two come on with the switch and a second switch turns the other two on.
otherwise, the bulbs are bad, or bad bulb connection, or bad ballast.

Dan, with fluorescent fixtures, my experience with good bulbs not lighting up has always been because of a bad ballast. Definitely make sure it's not something simple like the bulbs aren't seated correctly, or as 6t7gto mentioned, check for a second switch. If it is the ballast, turn the switch off, remove the ballast, and bring it with you to your local home improvement center to match it up with a new one. I believe ballasts are relatively inexpensive, so if your budget permits, you may want to consider replacing both ballasts at the same time.

It's been my experience that flour makes a really **** light fixture. Good for bread, bad for lights.

I love the smell of fresh baked bread though, really makes the garage a pleasant place to be....:)
