Looking for a handheld pump to help in pumping in gear oil into rear ends hoping to find something thats small and can be air assisted by a compressor the suction gun is a PITA!!!!!

They sell (or sold) gear oil in quart containers with small pumps in them. Add a small (Decent) hose, but it's not a lot more fun than a suction pump

I made one out of a garden sprayer. Drilled a hole and installed a valve stem so I can pressurize with air compressor, just be very careful not to over pressurize it. Here is the link to my write up, http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=97942&highlight=fluid+transfer. It's really simple and costs about 15 bucks and maybe 30 minutes of time. You can then make any number of adapters to fill diffs and trans.

On my list of to do's is to make one with the oil pump from an engine. I made a pumpout system for my oil catch barrel using an oil pump driven by a cordless drill. Works awesome. Used a twisted off extension for the top and when used with a universal it is very smooth.
Was thinking of making a couple more for diff oil,motor oil and ****** fluid. Still in the design phase in my head as to whether to make it sit atop the pail and drop a tube to the bottom of the pail or take the lid off and have the drive come thru the hole and still be able to put the lid on.

I've got one at the shop that's operated by your 3/8 air ratchet. Put the drive end into a female receiver on the pump, one hose in the gear oil and the other in the diff/t-case. I'll have to get pictures and details tomorrow though. Can't even remember the name of the company at the moment.
Sounds like something I could use. Please keep us updated on what this is.

I don't know where you can find them. My Matco dealer sourced it for us.
The hoses are quick connect lines just like your air hose. The kit comes with 3 hoses.
I've never used it for heavier gear oils like 80w-90, but synthetic 75w-90 and 75w-140 work just fine. Way easier to pump fluid into diffs and t-cases. Especially front diffs on 4WD Chevys.

That looks awesome! I've always hated transferring gear oil, but this looks like the best solution i've seen. How fast does it work?

With my Craftsman Professional air ratchet and ~160psi at the compressor, it'll transfer a quart of gear oil in a minute, minute and a half maybe. I love it.

Damn... I did my S-10 blazer back in the day with a battery filler (industrial turkey baster). There was ATF everywhere.
I have a gear lube pump for the boat outdrive, if I had to do something like that again I'd probably try that. They run 5-10 bucks. It'll take a while but it'll do it and should do so cleanly.

I have a pump that looks something like a big hand soap dispenser. It screws onto the top of a gallon bottle and cost $8.00 from Autozone. They keep it back by the grease guns and bearing packers. Its super fast with ATF, think a quart in 30 seconds. Slower with gear oil, about a quart in two minutes. You can buy one for your ATF and one for gear lube.
I have a pump that goes on top of a five gallon bucket of gear oil, or any oil really. It has a plastic tube on the outlet and you stick the tube wherever you want the oil to go. It works great, probably the best 30$ I ever spent.

Well, that *****. I had my boss pay for this tool for the whole shop, but I wanna say it cost him $110.
It is a great tool. Cleanup *****, but I usually just let it drain overnight then shoot some brake cleaner through the hoses in the morning.

For the home brew units, get a hold of an old soda acid fire extinguisher, and add a longer hose and ball valve on it. Then add a tire valve stem for pressure. To use, add pressure, and turn it upside down so the gear oil is at the hose connection. Those old stainless tanks are pressure tested to 500 PSI so your "pressure relief" is the valve stem popping out!

I just use my MityVac 7201. One of its many purposes. I mostly use it as a topside evacuator for oil changes and to empty my radiator cleanly when changing coolant, but it works just fine as a dispenser too. I've had no problems dispensing 80W140 into my differential with it.
