Fluke 179 and accessories kit. Assembled in USA.

I've been waiting for a deal on a decent meter... just got mine. Per camelcamelcamel, lowest price since 2013.

Make sure to add on a TP2 or TP1 to the order. Those little probes included are great but they're tiny, easy to bend and replacement tips aren't cheap. Those are more for SMD testing. The other test probes from Fluke like the TP175 or TP74 look odd on those leads, the TP1, TP2 and TP4 (or the suregrip variant) all line up perfectly.

I'll look for the TP1 or TP2 or similar next time I'm at Fry's. Not super impressed with the TL910 (slim electronics probes) so far, which is sad since they'd otherwise be perfect for most of my usage. Getting inconsistent resistance measurements out of the box with those. May try finessing the tips a bit (could be bad contact in the handle, or may just need to try the gold pogo tips).

Might have been better off getting the non-EDA2 (meter and basic leads only) and getting some other slim leads.

They're a little finicky because the tips are replaceable, cleaning should help. They are really good for the use they're intended for but REALLY expensive. Pomona branded version is cheaper, I have both and there is no difference.

One thing to keep in mind is how the TP1 (and the like) goes from 2mm to 4mm at the base. I was able to get a couple of the old TP1 which had insulation going to the tip, which I cut off to have a probe that is 2mm the entire length...It (TP1) was worrying when in tight spots, a FET on a heatsink can easily be shorted if you're not paying attention.

Or get some ProbeMaster probes. Made in USA and very reasonably priced.

I hear they are very good probes, I personally wish they made a copy of the TP1 shape. I want the great strain relief, gold plated tips and long silicone wire but slimmer to fit in the probe holders on the Fluke(and simply because I find those leads comfortable to use).

I know a lot of people don't use the lead holders but I like using the probe holders then wrapping the leads around the meter.

The gold plated Brymen leads are nice too.
