Anyone know why is the discontinued Fluke 189 so much more expensive than the newer 289? I always thought the 189 (series 2), or 289 was the higher end unit with more features.... but I see they're selling for about 40% less... both are made in the USA I believe.

Am I missing something on features or resolution of either unit?

thanks for sharing your experience.

If they truly do cost more it's a matter of supply VS demand for the discontinued item. Some electronic equipment is used in large organizations and they "standardize" on a model/type and then tend to stick to it as long as they can ie. they train their workforce on that meter and stock repair parts/have calibration protocols in place that would have to be replaced too. These things can run up the price on the discontinued stuff or even make the manufacture reintroduce the item ie. the fluke 87!.

yeah, it looks like a supply/demand thing... they're selling used 189's on ebay that are beat to **** for just a little less than the 289... I guess some guys just love their 189.
