Wanted to grab an oscilloscope on the cheap and fear I may have gotten had. Got a killer deal on a fluke 97 scope meter. Seller stated everything worked, however upon testing, once delivered, I couldn't view a signal on channel a or b but the meter worked fine. Tried to do a probe calibration and it said unknown probes. Ended up finding one probe damaged missing the tip as well, then I found that they aren't even fluke probes but techtronix probes. While that is obviously an issue, if I can get a partial refund for probes Id take it, but my question is: anyone know of a usable aftermarket option that will work with the flukes that will recognize calibration? There is a new superseded number for the probes fluke makes but I am having issues finding them.

They have internal 10x attenuation so I'm sure that is the issue on the cost of the fluke ones. Just want to be sure that I can order the correct ones that work.

Thanks in advance, hope I posted in the correct location.

where'd you buy this from? Hopefully you have purchase protection. If not file a claim with credit card company and claim you were sold defective product and buyer wont refund you

If you do not get any traces, it may be that the previous user has been less than careful, and used the front pushbuttons so the traces have been dimmed to an extent that they do not show.
On most FLUKE scope meters there is a global reset button on the back. Use a pointed object ( the hole is quite small and deep) and push on the hidden pushbutton switch. All settings now revert to factory settings.
MAY be your problem.

Ebay purchase, have been fairly lucky up until now. The seller has offered a full refund and prepaid shipping. I did find some bso probes with 10x attenuation ill be trying. If I can't produce a wave form it goes back.

mbfreak I did do a master reset, and it has a calibrate function to plug into the signal generator to verify the operation of the probe and the generator while also allowing for a graph to be set for proper readings. none of which worked.

So ill update thursday evening with findings once they arrive.

OP.
Thanks for the feedback.

I got hold of mine for $5, including orig probes, orig hardcase and a complete manual.
Made a master reset and have used it a lot the last 10 years.

Good luck finding a good one, they are quite useful.

If you happen to be in Seattle, to the best of my recollection the John Fluke Company will be local to you.
