If you got the fade problem and not an actual cracked LCD, then there is a few kits on Ebay that will fix the LCD fade issue for about $25.

A kit is usually not needed. Just remove the LCD and clean all the contacts with a pencil eraser and the LCD should display like new.

I bet there are some You tube videos that show how it's done.

My question is why does Fluke use such unreliable display technology??

Almost every Fluke I have has had this issue. Maybe Fluke should license their display technology from HF. (none of my free HF cheapies has ever had display problems).

The only good thing is the ability to buy dead Flukes cheap at G-sales and fix them.

I bought 4 Fluke 87 and 88 meters with faded screens all under $100 each. the method in the vid worked 100% of the time.

The kit is called a DR80 display upgrade kit. Also includes an upgraded backlight.

The problem is really the elastomeric strips not the display.

Older ones have the problem, I fixed mine way back when with the eraser trick, then got the replacement display maybe 10 years ago and haven't had a problem since. Mine is probably 20 years old and still going strong.

Lotek, you made me realize just how old one of my Flukes actually is.

I have a Fluke 75 from the early 90s that has yet to fail me. Still using the original leads, too.
