Is eBay the best source for....

I don't think eBay is the best source for much other than Chinese widgets and/or used items!

WAY too many scammers, spammers, and crooks on that site with no way to know exactly who you're buying from, and what you're actually buying. Half of the sellers on eBay have terrible return policies, or even a NO RETURN policy. If you're going to spend real money on a "new" device that needs to be REAL (not counterfeit/fake) and accurate, eBay is not the place to be shopping, in my opinion anyway.

If you're looking to buy used, that is a different story. Finding a good deal on a used device from a private seller is not uncommon.

Buyer Beware.

Just my $.02

If this is a work item that they’re footing the bill for then the calibration paperwork may be required. When our meters required calibration, the company bought new meters that calibration paperwork was good. It was almost the same price new versus calibration.
Digi-key, and plenty of others.
Never forget Flukes own site.

You could try some of the large electronics supply houses like Digital-Key, Newark or Mouser. I know all three carry Fluke products, I'll leave it up to you to compare prices.

Also, don't discount buying local - I don't know where you live, but if it's anywhere near a major metropolitan area there's probably a company that sells them. When I bought my Fluke meter years ago there was a calibration company literally next door to my company that was an authorized seller.

Transcat is fast with calibrations and repairs.

I don't ever remember the cost of an instrument + cal cert being close in cost to a "re-"calbration.

You do what engineering requested. They found it cheaper to replace rather than repair or calibrate. Wasn’t my dime but I have some nice equipment out of it.
Just like our software for plc’s. We didn’t upgrade until engineering let it out as a mass upgrade to all. One guy upgrading may well lock out others running lower level software.

And software for plc's has what to do with purchase and cal of an instrument?
It was the way they thought and practiced. Replacement was a mass operation for the service guys. Come in and a new set of flukes for all. We used these instruments for calibration of equipment. It was way easier to just update the lot instead of piecemeal.

My employer is affording this. Not me buddy. Be that as it may, I try to be frugal with the money that they trust me with.
if your employer is buying, Id think you want to make sure you get a warranty with the unit. being frugal is great however, saving $50 but losing a warranty is not wise

HELL NO!

buy from an authorized vendor... that is if you care about a warranty

that could be a stolen unit, broken unit, counterfit, etc
I should’ve stated the obvious, in that I would only consider an eBay sale if from an authorized dealer, of which, there are several whom have sold there for years. My fault.

I bought a lot of Fluke meters on ebay, and tequipment.net. No problems. I don't give one care about warranty. I don't use or need warranty.

I looked around a bit a couple years ago. Could buy them quite a bit cheaper on Amazon but I can't trust Amazon. I ordered 4 fluke meters through my electrical supplier that I know and trust.

Same here. There are very reputable authorized sellers on eBay. Never needed a warranty and often times mfrs just have you send the unit in and don’t require proof of purchase. Not always the case but often times it is.

why not? Amazon is an authorized reseller for fluke
I've received a few things from Amazon that made me question if it was the real thing. No idea if that would happen with meters but I wasn't willing to find out.

I spent more but I know I can pick up the phone and resolve any issues quickly and painlessly.

I think the Weller wp60?was sold by Amazon, not 100% sure. It all gets lumped together as Amazon. I'm guessing a lot of people are the same way.

If they want more of my business, they need to get a majority of the junk off the site. Amazon seems to encourage junk products.

no it doesnt. amazon clearly tells you A) who the seller is and B) who the shipper is.

Ive bought tens of thousands of dollars worth of stuff on amazon and not one item was ever counterfit. but i only buy stuff that is sold and shipped by amazon or sold by third party shipped by amazon via Prime because you then have a guarantee....

How does one know if an ebay seller is authorized? I just looked at the supply house website and that meter is $850 without me complaining to the salesman about the price. I would assume Toolup is authorized and they have it for $600 on ebay. I'm not in the market for a meter yet, I did have a Fluke and accidentally threw it in a dumpster one night and didn't figure it out until it was way too late. The Ideal I replaced it with works fine for now.

I lump it together. If I sell something, I have to take responsibility for it. If you want a good name sell good stuff. 3rd party or not. If someone is selling junk then give him the boot.

I'm glad you're happy with your purchases.

Often times you can tell by their username and for years they would even have their business name and small ads listed in the description. This obviously isn’t always the case but you can often find some way to make this determination. These places will generally have a 99% or 100% seller rating as well.

Look at the Fluke website, I believe they have a list of authorized distributors.

If it was me and especially for if it was for work, I'd rather buy the meters locally if possible. That way, if there are any issues you can just give them a call and/or stop by their shop, and you're not dealing with a faceless entity located hundreds or thousands of miles away.
