When i first started wrenchin' i invested in a Fluke 88. the other day i was looking around on one of the trucks and he had the new 88V. he will trade me the old one + $100 for it. i have the extra money and was wondering if the extra features were justifiable, or if i should just keep the old meter and get some new chrome instead.

I'd wait and look to upgrade in the future. This week I picked up the new 233 with removeable/remote display. That's a worthwhile feature.

I dont know what upgrades the 88 model V offers but I can tell you the markup on their product is pretty high. Years ago I worked for a Fluke dealer and my price on meters was cost + 5%.

I bought a Model 88 for a buddy for around $240 when they were selling for around $400 retail. I really like the 80 series meters , I carry an 87 at work but I dont care for the cheap "made in Vietnam" low end ones.
