Fluke test leads

Any suggestions on what brand test leads I should be looking at for my Fluke 179 meter? The reviews I read on Amazon for the Fluke 'premium' test leads don't sound so good. Is Pomona any better, or same same? Thanks!

Buy some Pomona DIY jacks and probes, some good silicon wire....make your own.

The key to good test leads is making sure the wire is silicon covered....

+1 for silicone insulation. That's the gold standard for test leads.
I really like my AEMC leads, but different types of leads work best for different uses.

Probemaster, Pomona, and Fluke all make decent ones, but I don't like Flukes cheapest ones - the TL75 (?) PVC ones.

Pomona 5519A are nice basic silicone leads that are a good step up from the PVC ones that come in the box with most Fluke meters these days, and they're only around $20.

Probemaster 8000 series are nice for working on small electronics - they have shorter, more flexible probes than other makes.

Pomona is owned by Fluke. Alot of the products are the same, but not all. Please be sure that your test leads have the same safety rating as your meter does. IIRC, your Fluke 179 is rated Cat IV. Whatever leads you use should also be Cat IV.

My favorites have always been the Oldaker leads. The points are very sharp, and they use screw on accessories. The hook style end clips are essential accessories IMO.

I get them from the local electronics supply, but it looks like their website is at usprobes.net

Oldaker no longer manufactures probes. They now resell Probemaster and Mueller. Probemaster is good, but Mueller isn't what it used to be. Most of the Mueller stuff I've seen is now made in China rather than the US.
